Love Foods That Love You Back.

Body positivity is in and I am here for it… I am not here for the idea that restricting “bad foods” is part of toxic diet culture. Read more to find out why.

I love seeing all the body positivity on social media. Loving yourself just as you are, enlightened in the knowledge that you are enough and worthy. There is nothing better than that!

Diet culture has told us, men and women, that we need to achieve thinness, muscles, symmetry, and a small number on our jeans to be worthy of love and acceptance. To achieve societal success we must starve ourselves. No more! No more are people accepting this to be true. We find value in ourselves no matter how we look because value comes from within. Trusting ourselves and believing that we are amazing, and to hell with what other people think, is the ultimate freedom. Its ends suffering and creates possibility. I am here for it, I love it.

Where I have an issue is the new mantra, “There is no bad foods, that’s toxic restrictive diet culture”. No, there are a lot of foods that we should not be eating because they are toxic to our species. I’m looking at you, trans fats!

There needs to be a delineation between “bad foods” such as cookies, treats, fried foods and “bad foods” like trans fats, chemical additives, and over abundance of sugars. If you want a cookie, make one from scratch with grass-fed butter and recognizable ingredients or buy one from a trusted bakery that uses wholesome ingredients. Fry foods at home in a safe and sane oil, like avocado oil. This isn’t about restricting foods that you love… as long as those foods love you back.

Restricting foods that do not love you back ...is the most sincere form of self respect and self love

It’s important to discover what foods works for our bodies for optimal health and function. Restricting foods that do no love you back is not toxic diet culture but it is the most sincere form of self respect and self love. If you know that dairy causes you issues then you must set healthy boundaries and look for dairy free alternatives.

We can all agree that we are all unique individuals and our diets need to reflect that. My brother doesn’t have any diet restrictions and I do. Same upbringing, we share many of the same genes, but we eat drastically different. Finding YOUR food lovers can help you live a longer, fuller, more fulfilled life.

How do you find the foods that love you back? An elimination diet is a great place to start. There are many diets to choose from and working with a nutrition consultant can help you to discover your food lovers.
